Residential Lawn Care Fertilizer

The key to a great yard is knowing what to apply and when. BCA Products helps homeowners, distributors, and lawn care companies understand fertilizer basics, control weeds, and start new lawns using practical, step-by-step guidance.

Fertilizer basics—N-P-K made simple

Every bag shows its analysis (e.g., 24-0-10): Nitrogen for growth and color, Phosphorus for roots/establishment, and potassium (K) for stress and disease resistance.

When To Fertilize

  • Spring

Apply a crabgrass preventer (e.g., Green Pro Crabgrass Preventer 27-0-8) March–early May.

  • Late Spring

Weed & feed (e.g., Green Pro Weed ’N’ Feed 25-0-8) April–June for broadleaf control.

  • Summer

All-season lawn fertilizer (e.g., Green Pro Lawn Fertilizer 24-0-10) July–September for heat/drought stress.

  • Fall

Winterizer (e.g., Green Pro Winterizer 26-0-13) late Aug–Nov to prep for winter.

  • Simplified Plan

Use the 4 Step Revive & Thrive Program for what to apply and when.

Weed Control (Pre & Post)

A dense, healthy lawn plus smart herbicide use wins. Use pre-emergent before weed seeds sprout (water in), and post-emergent on young, actively growing weeds during the season (don’t water for ~48 hours after application). Green Pro Weed ’N’ Feed controls 250+ broadleaf weeds.

Starting a new lawn

The best window is mid-August to mid-September. Spring seeding also works with more weed pressure. Choose mixes suited to the Upper Midwest (e.g., Kentucky bluegrass, fine fescue, some perennial ryegrass), prep the site, apply BCA Premium Lawn Starter 18-22-6, seed as directed, and keep soil evenly moist until established.

Custom Blend Fertilizer
